FAQs
What are the main advantages of learning maths online?

1. Convenience - no need to leave your home to go to grinds, no wasted time travelling or waiting around.

2. Flexibility - you can learn when it suits you. View the lessons as many times as you want, and practice when you want.  And you don't need to wait for a week to get support!

3. Value - traditional grinds are expensive, and so is driving to them. Online learning is much better value for money.

What's so special about TheMathsTutor.ie system?

Lots of things! The main ones are that it's:

1. Tailor-made for the Irish secondary system
, so you learn everything you need, and no extra material to wade through

2. Focused on Project Maths, to help you make sense of this new style of learning maths

3. Video-based
, so it's like having your own private tutor, 24/7, without any pressure to understand everything first time.

4. Interactive
, with automatic correction when you do the exercises, and on-line support if you get stuck.

5. Getting better all the time
- based on your feedback, we review and update our materials, and add new material all the time in response to students' needs. We are working on this every day, so our system is improving every day, and it always will.

6. Based on Moodle
, which is the same method as used in many universities. So when you arrive at third level, you are a step ahead of everyone else, because you know the system, and you have developed independent learning skills.

Can I try out the system before I pay a subscription?

Of course!

We know that this is a new way of learning for many people, so we are happy to give you access to some of the lessons for free.

If you like what you see (and we think you will), you can sign up for full membership which will give you access to all the lessons you require.

What is Project Maths?

Project Maths is the name given to the new syllabus being implemented for the Junior Cert and Leaving Cert over the next 3 years. Parts of the new syllabus are being examined at Leaving Cert level in 2012, and at Junior Cert level from 2013.

Project Maths places more emphasis on real-life scenarios, less emphasis on using past examination papers and requires a real understanding of maths rather than rote learning.

Many students are finding that Project Maths is quite a challenge, and some are not sure what is expected or how to approach it. We are here to help guide and support you in this new approach to maths.

Currently, 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th years (and many TY students) are studying Project Maths topics, and from next year, all students will follow the Project Maths syllabus, to an increasing degree, until it is fully implemented by 2014.

Why are you focusing on Project Maths?

We specialise in learning support for Project Maths, because that is where students need most help at the moment.

We cover Strands 1 and 2 of Project Maths, up to Leaving Cert Ordinary level, as these are required for the 2012 Leaving Cert exams.  We also cover the basics of Algebra.

We will cover the other Strands by September 2012, in time for the 2013 exams.

Why are you focusing on levels up to Leaving Cert Ordinary level?

It takes time to create high quality learning resources, so we focused on the Project Maths strands up to Leaving Cert Ordinary level initially, as these are of benefit to all students.

We do not cover Leaving Cert Higher level yet.

By September 2012, we will cover all levels, and all topics,
from Junior Cert Ordinary through to Leaving Cert Higher level.

In the meantime, students at all levels can benefit from using the system.
